When I started writing this I thought to myself, you kind of know that you’re getting older when you do a search on the internet to try and find an article about when you’re getting older.

Well if that was the case for you and it is something that you have been worrying about, then hopefully the benefits I have listed below will show you that’s it not all bad, and there are positive things for you to look forward to as you get a bit older.

Just because you are getting older it doesn’t have to mean that you are going to have to take large volumes of pills, sit in a rocking chair, and vegetate away the rest of your years.

In fact, this kind of mindset can lead you to all sorts of issues such as loneliness, depression or even premature death.

Plus you might also still be missing out on some of the best years of your life.

There are quite a few advantages to getting older, which can make these years more enjoyable and exciting than you might have experienced in your younger ones.

Here are ten cool benefits for you to think about while you are in the mindset of dealing with getting older, which might make you feel better when the time comes.

You no longer have to get up and go to work.

Woo hoo, imagine not being dictated to by the alarm clock any more.

When you are retired, you can choose to sleep in and engage in hobbies and doing anything you want to do, as opposed to when you were younger and had tons more responsibilities.

Once you hit that retirement mark, that’s the time to start new hobbies, take different courses if you want to, travel, or engage in community education activities that will fill your time and make it seem like work was one of your distant memories.

You get more benefits and discounts.

In loads of cases, you can get into venues and eating places with cheaper rates for those who have reached a certain older age.

This means you can enjoy more things for less money than you did when you were younger.

You can take part in discounted activities that are fun and stimulating, which can keep your mind and body active.

You’ll find sex can be better.

With no longer having to worry about the concerns of years ago such as getting pregnant, and with the risk of STDs going down, you can enjoy sex with your partner more now than ever.

The kids are now out of the house, so the sex can be more spontaneous, free, and longer lasting than in your younger years.

The kids are finally grown.

This is the time when roles get reversed and children can start giving back to the parents.

So now you can trade in things you did for them when they were younger with favours they can do for you so you don’t have as many things to worry about.

You don’t have to actually become the children in order to reap the benefits of having children who care about you and will check in on you regularly.

Knowing that you did a good job when they were growing up will have its rewards without having to ask them.

You realize what issues are most important to you.

As you get a bit older, you come to realize which issues are more important to you and which things can be put to one side for another time.

Older people can take the time to think about the more important things in life and will stress less over issues that don’t really make much difference in the end.

When you realize your priorities, you will be under less stress and will be more focused on those things that really matter to you.

You begin to care less anymore about what people think.

As you get older, you will start to care a lot less about what people think about you and you’ll spend more time and effort on what you want to do irrespective of what other people might think.

Older people appear to be more frank in what they say and behave the way they want to, because there is more tolerance for older people so they can kind of let go a bit more and be themselves.

You seem to get less trapped by your emotions.

Many older people don’t spend much time dwelling on negative thought patterns and emotions, because they know that all things eventually pass or phase out.

As you get on in years, you realize through your life experience and the wisdom that it brings that some emotions are a complete waste of time and just don’t change anything.

You find it’s best to just let go of any negativity and sway to being more optimistic and living in the moment.

Some illnesses lessen with age.

I’m not talking about illnesses that majorly serious which require constant supervision or medication, but things such as migraine headaches and stress related diseases tend to decrease with age.

When you finally no longer have difficulties with chronic headaches or with stress, your body can relax and you can begin to get on with your day to day life much more easily.

You develop a greater sense of self-worth as you're getting older.

As you grow into an older adult, you’ll probably have a lifetime of positive experiences which you can draw upon and know what you have been capable of over the years.

You can call on these abilities to create a sense of self-worth that stands the test of time.

Call on grandchildren to learn from and enjoy.

A lot of people will have grandchildren in their lives, but even if you didn’t have children, many of us can benefit from the technical knowledge and youthful experiences of younger friends and relatives.

These are people that could be called upon who can help you figure out your computer or hand held device.

Who can keep you in the technical age where many things depend on knowing how to operate the latest technical devices, such as the one you might be on just now.
